Acrobat® Reader from Adobe Systems Incorporated
The Adobe® Acrobat® Reader allows you to view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files. This software is freely available for a number of different platforms.

Illustrator® from Adobe Systems Incorporated
Adobe® Illustrator® is a drawing software package. It was used not only to produce some of the artwork in the book, but to fine-tune the illustrations as well.

Mathematica® from Wolfram Research, Inc.
Mathematica® was used to produce most of the animations at this web site.

MathReader® from Wolfram Research, Inc.
MathReader® allows you to read but not edit Mathematica®-compatible notebook documents, and is available for a number of different platforms.

PostScript® from Adobe Systems Incorporated
PostScript® is a language which describes the appearance of a page to a printer or other output device.

QuickTime® from Apple Computer, Inc.
All of the animations at this web site are in QuickTime® format. This software is available for only a limited number of platforms so Linux or Unix users will need to use a package called XAnim in order to view the animations.

Serious compatibility issues have arisen between QuickTime® and plug-ins for Microsoft Internet Explorer®. For more information, visit the Apple FAQ page.

Starry Night Deluxe from Sienna Software, Inc.
Starry Night Deluxe is an astronomy program containing millions of stars and other celestial objects, constellation diagrams, solar system objects, and multimedia tools which allow you to make movies of sky animations. This program was used to produce the animation of flying from London to Saturn.

TeX Users Group
TeX is the powerful typesetting language developed by Donald Knuth at Stanford University and used by scientists around the world.

Textures® from Blue Sky Research
Textures® is a Macintosh® implementation of TeX. It was used heavily in the production of the book.
